According to the White House official website, President Donald Trump announced his intention to send Hogan to the diplomatic mission in Chisinau, being one of the specialists in Eastern Europe. He has also been active in various missions in the Russian Federation or Azerbaijan.
Besides English, he speaks Russian and Spanish and would take the place of James Pettit, who became ambassador in 2015.
The new ambassador Derek J. Hogan will arrive at Chisinau in the end of October.
