The citizens who are not satisfied with the services of their family doctor can change it once in six months. The National Company for Medical Assurance initiated an information company according to the rights and duties of the people within the medical assurance. The action is supported by the Health, Labor and Social Protection Ministry.

The people who intend to change their family doctor should write on a list the specialist they want. Thus they should write a request and specify they want to be consulted by another doctor. If the doctor takes part from a different medical institution, then, the request should be made at CNAM.

The director of the National Medical Assurance hopes this campaign will increase the responsibility of the family doctors.

"I hope this information campaign will make the family doctors more responsible. It will lead to a competition within the medical institutions", said Dumitru Parfeniev, general director of CNAM.

"Many of the clients and beneficiaries of the medical assistance system don't even know their rights and duties according to their family doctor, and about the possibility to change the family doctor and the medical institution", said Stela Grigoras, the Minister of Health, Social Protection and Family.

According to the Ministry of Health, Social Protection and Family, monthly, over 5 000 requests of changing the family doctor are registered in the country. The half of the requests were written by the Capital citizens.

The new rule of law will come into force from the very beginning of this year.
