Drochia district locals discussed with PDM: People want fewer political parties and politicians to be punished
"Fewer parties, continuing of farmers grant and politicians to be punished when delaying the passing of laws". These are some of the expectations of inhabitants of Drochia district from politicians. The views were expressed in the debates within the "political reform" initiated by the Democratic Party and civil society representatives.
Residents of the district say that Moldova has an exaggerated number of parties, especially since many of them are inactive:
"Let them be four, five parliamentary parties participating in the elections, or 40 at the local elections. People would understand for whom to vote."
"We want the punishing of political class even if those who stand in opposition when not signing laws, laws that are good for people".
In the debate, farmers have mentioned the issue of subsidies.
"It's time by now to turn back to us. We ask subsidies per every hectare of land and to end corruption. We want to be equal, to receive every subsidies that a peasant deserves ".
Democratic lawmakers say these discussions with civil society are unexpectedly productive.
"Discussions are very good. We actually really need fewer parties, I think 45 of them is a lot. Probably we should think of the reforms also, we may need to think and reform the electoral system because even citizens want members to be closer to them" , said DPM MP Sergiu Sarbu.
"The subsidies in agriculture is a current problem. We have already started discussions at government level, at the level of prime minister on accepting the files to subsidize farmers even if it fails in 2016, to continue it in 2017" , said Cornel Padnevici PDM deputy.
Over 200 people attended the debate in Drochia district. The purpose of the "Political reform" campaign is to identify ideas and solutions for improving business parties in Moldova.
