EBRD appreciates reforms in financial and banking sectors of Republic of Moldova

Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Sergiu Cioclea, and Finance Minister Octavian Armasu had a meeting with the EBRD delegation headed by Alain Pilloux, EBRD Vice-President, during his visit in Moldova from October 25 till October 26, 2018.
The officials discussed the progress of the reforms in the financial-banking system and about the measures taken by the authorities in view of the transparency of the bank's shareholders.
Alain Pilloux said that the qualitative change of ownership of two systemic banks, Victoriabank and Moldova-Agroindbank, during 2018 will allow these institutions to access international organizations, including the EBRD, thus increasing the lending capacity of private sector economic agents .
Sergiu Cioclea thanked the EBRD delegation for involving the institution in attracting foreign investors to the banking sector and assured that the National Bank will continue its efforts to strengthen and rehabilitate the system.
"There is still much to be done, but thanks to the joint work of the Moldovan authorities and foreign development partners, we have today a much safer, stronger and more transparent banking sector," said the Governor of NBM.
In his turn, Octavian Armasu explained the strategic development priorities of the Government and expressed gratitude to the EBRD's management for the support given to various infrastructure projects.
The Minister of Finance highly praised EBRD's involvement in public procurement reform and M-Tender's electronic bidding solution, presented today at the thematic regional forum for Central and Eastern European countries, Central Asia and the Caucasus.
EBRD is one of the largest foreign investors in the Republic of Moldova - over € 1.2 billion in 120 projects and a record investment volume of € 130 million signed in 2017.
