EBRD pledges support Republic of Moldova in country reformation

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is one of the strategic partners of the Republic of Moldova, providing ongoing support to national authorities in key areas including economic and social development, science and innovation, infrastructure rehabilitation, supporting integration into European energy markets and diversification of sources energy. The statement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi, during the meeting with Angela Sax, the head of the EBRD Bureau in Moldova.
In particular, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi mentioned the EBRD's support for improving the country's energy security in line with its commitments under the Energy Community Treaty and the EU-Moldova Association Agreement.
The interlocutors exchanged views on the efficiency of the bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the EBRD through various projects supported by the financial institution, as well as the possibility of initiating new cooperation programs, taking into account the priorities of the Government's development strategies.
In this context, Tudor Ulianovschi and Angela Sax have agreed to maintain intensive communication in order to better prepare the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration with the leadership of the EBRD, scheduled for June 2018.
In his turn, the head of the EBRD Office in Moldova appreciated the efforts of the authorities in implementing the country's reform and modernization programs, notably by improving the business environment, reducing bureaucracy and ensuring stability in the banking sector, which makes our country a attractive destination for foreign investors.
Angela Sax confirmed the EBRD's willingness to further support the Republic of Moldova in implementing reforms aimed at ensuring sustainable economic development.
Throughout 2017, the EBRD granted the Republic of Moldova financial assistance worth 131 million euros for the implementation of 10 projects. Since its inception in our country, the EBRD has funded 122 projects worth over 1.2 billion euros.
