Edelweiss Foundation gave writing materials and backpacks to a family with ten children from Drochia
The preparations for the start of a new school year are difficult for Vieru family from Gribova village, Drochia district. For a numerous family and with a more difficult financial situation, they do not have enough money to send to school eight of the ten children.
The Edelweiss Foundation, founded by Vlad Plahotniuc, came with a beautiful surprise. The children received writing materials and backpacks and everything they needed in the eve of 1 September.
In Vieru family are six girls and four boys. The oldest is Cristian, 21 years old, and the youngest, Samuel, is only 1 year old. Shortly, Nina Vieru will give birth to the 11th child of the family.
“We thank God that there are good people in Moldova who can help when is needed and where is needed” said Nina Vieru.
After receiving a backpack full with writing materials, Simina says that she is waiting to go to school for the first time: “I am waiting for 1st September to come, to go to school with my brothers and sisters. And I want to meet my future colleagues from school.”
Books, notebooks, and backpacks have received other seven children of Vieru family: “I have here painting brushes, scissors, eraser, a ruler, glue.”
“I was asking to have a new backpack, and the parents said that they do not have money, and the backpacks are expensive. I thought to go with the old one, but now I am glad to have a new one.”
Their father, Gheorghe Vieru, says that this year, the work in greenhouses did not gain any income. Because of this reason, he did not have enough money to buy children all they needed for the school year.
“The fruits were a few, we have debts, the greenhouses we built by taking loans from banks” has explained the man.
For Vlad Plahotniuc’s Edelweiss Foundation, for many years has become a tradition of give writing materials and clothes to children from families with small income from Moldova.
