Efforts of Chisinau authorities, APPRECIATED by OSCE Chairman in Office
Vlad Plahotniuc, chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova, and Miroslav Lajčák, the chairman of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia, had a meeting on the agenda of the DPM central office on Friday Moldova and the OSCE.
The DPM chairman expressed his appreciation for the fact that Miroslav Lajčák visits the Republic of Moldova right at the beginning of his term as OSCE leader, considering that this shows the interest of the OSCE for our country and the desire to support the political and security processes in Moldova and the region.
Vlad Plahotniuc informed the foreign visitor about Moldova's economic and social development during DPM governance , stressing that economic progress is a contribution to national and regional security while offering our country new opportunities for European cooperation.
The talk between the DPM president and the OSCE Chairman-in-Office then focused on the Transnistrian issue, Vlad Plahotniuc, talking about the positive developments in the Chisinau-Tiraspol dialogue and about the concrete results for Moldovan citizens on both sides of the Dniester. The meeting also addressed Moldova's preparations for the parliamentary elections of February 24, 2019, Vlad Plahotniuc affirming that DPM wants a fair and transparent electoral process. The Democratic leader added that the government of the country has taken additional steps to ensure the right to vote of the diaspora citizens by increasing the number of polling stations and deciding to send an increased number of ballot papers.
On the successes of the government, OSCE Chairman-in-Office Miroslav Lajčák congratulated the DPM leader on the developments in the Transnistrian conflict settlement, and then stressed the importance of the elections to be held in Moldova, adding that the OSCE election observation mission is objective and neutral.
Vlad Plahotniuc and Miroslav Lajčák agreed that it is very important that Moldova and the OSCE continue their good cooperation in the interest of peace and security in the region and on the European continent.
The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe is the world's largest security organization, with members of all European states, including Russia, several Central Asian states, as well as the US and Canada.
Slovakia is the country that took over the rotating OSCE Chairmanship on January 1, 2019, and will exercise this responsibility throughout the year. The foreign minister of the country holding the OSCE chairmanship is also the acting president of this organization.
