Eiffel Tower might be painted back to its original color
One of the world's most romantic and recognisable structures may be restored to its original color as part of a massive three-year refurbishment.
During its renovation the Eiffel Tower will be given a fresh coat of paint - which could see it revert to the vibrant red it was first assigned.
Architect Gustave Eiffel's choice of the bold color was to prevent the iron lattice structure in Paris, France, changing appearance when it rusted.
Its current shade of brown could be scrapped in favor of the designer's original intention as part of a project costing €300million, according to The Local.
Although no final decision has been taken by authorities about this latest possible renovation, it has been confirmed the tower will receive a fresh coat of paint.
Restoration chiefs have yet to confirm whether they will simply apply a new brown coat or revert to red.
In addition to its various reworkings, the structure requires year-round maintenance as millions ascend the tower to take in panoramic views of Paris.
But an acceleration of maintenance was decided upon due to obvious cracks in the paint, bringing about the possibility of a red resurgence.
