A comprehensive review of the national regulatory authority of Moldova (ANRE) was published by the Energy Community Secretariat yesterday.

 

The review was commissioned at the request of Moldova’s prime minister, evaluating the regulatory body’s independence and performance, and represents a step towards Moldova’s alignment with European standards.

 

Key findings and recommendations highlighted that the ANRE is seriously exposed to political influences. The review called for urgent measures to improve the situation, including transparent recruitment of senior staff at the ANRE, clear performance indicators to facilitate independent audits, and greater capacity building of ANRE’s employees. Most of the recommendations will be put in place under the new Law on Energy, which is currently in parliamentary procedure.

 

The Energy Community Secretariat will assist the Moldovan authorities in the implementation of the recommendations. This cooperation indicate an important step in ANRE’s ongoing development and alignment with European standards.

 

The Energy Community is an international organisation dealing with energy policy.
