Families of health workers who died of COVID-19 could receive allowances
The Ministry of Health has drafted a law that is in the stage of public consultations. The allowance will be calculated on the basis of the monthly income declared in the 12 months preceding the death.
According to the document, the surviving spouse will receive the allowance for five years, and minor children, until the age of 23. Unless the deceased doctor has a husband or children, the allowance will be granted to one of the parents.
The amount of the allowance differs depending on the category of receivers and will be between 50 and 75 percent of the declared monthly income of the deceased doctor. The rule will be applied to health workers who have died from the novel coronavirus beginning in March.
The project is in the approval stage and is to be approved by the Government. The representatives of the Ministry refused to go into details about this initiative.
Until now, 1,646 people working in hospitals across Moldova have been infected with the new coronavirus. The figure represents 20 percent of the total number of diseases.
