Family doctors will be able to open their own cabinets, just like in European countries. The costs will be covered by the National Health Insurance Company. The rooms will be made available by the local authorities, and the NHIC will provide funding according to the number of patients and additional services. The provisions are in the primary medicine reform, approved on Friday by the Government, which offers more autonomy for doctors.
"Through this project we believe to solve more problems of this system, a higher income of the doctor on the one hand, on the other hand a quality of services much higher than it is now", said the prime minister Pavel Filip.
Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection, Svetlana Cebotari said that the reform will be implemented primarily in villages where family doctors are missing.
"Ensuring the rural sector with family physicians, namely by increasing the attractiveness of the family doctor's profession, increasing the quality of medical services for the population in the primary health care sector, increasing the patient's trust in the family doctor", Svetlana Cebotari, Minister of Health, Labor and Protection social.
According to the authorities, free practice will exist alongside the existing system. The implementation of the project will ensure better working conditions for family doctors, optimize healthcare spending and improve the quality of healthcare.
Now, the average salary of a family doctor is 4500 lei. Young people who accept a job in villages also receive from the state a dwelling and a unique allowance of 45,000 lei.
