Federica Mogherini: EU is a strong partner and friend for the Republic of Moldova
The European Union is a strong partner and friend of the Republic of Moldova in the process of implementing the Association Agreement and the Free Trade Agreement. This topic was discussed by Federica Mogherini and Pavel Filip, within his visit to Brussels.
Mogherini congratulated the Chisinau authorities for the positive evolution in solving the transnistrean conflict and for the Government's efforts to integrate the persons who belong to different national minorities.
At the same time, the high representatives of the European Union for foreign affairs and security appreciated the progresses registered by our country on the foreign relations' decisions.
However, Federica Mogherini declared that some spheres still require a lot of work and attention, especially, the thing that the Republic of Moldova should concentrate on implementing the reforms in the key spears, such as: justice, press, energy and business.
"The association agreement and the free trade one were realized in the advantage of the Moldovan and European citizens. This is the reason why we should work together, to make sure that these projects are implemented and fulfilled properly.
We discussed many subjects, especially, how can we develop the economic relationship and raise the volume of exports and imports, that will create more jobs and will improve the democracy and of course, it will support the human rights and the state of law.
To benefit of all the advantages of the Association Agreement, this should be properly implemented. Mr. prime minister and the ministers discussed about what should we do in this sense and how can the EU support this process in a short term. We also discussed about the reforms in the key spheres.
It is essential for the Republic of Moldova to concentrate on implementing reforms in key sectors, such as: justice, energy, media, and the business sector with the understanding that all reforms should be sustained and based on continuous fight against corruption and strong support to the rule of law.
This includes the investigation on the bank fraud. The investigation should be plenty of details, impartial and complete, to recover all the funded funds and to sentence all the responsible in this case, regardless of their political belonging. We asked many of them to fulfill it, as this situation is hard to be understood.
The citizens of the Republic of Moldova should no longer support the consequences of this fraud and the ones of the unfair justice.
The diligence is a key quality in developing our relationship with the East and West partners and Moldova is not an exception. A diligent country is one where the society is based on democracy.
We also discussed political issues, especially the elections system. The EU thinks that the elections should be transparent and any change of the elections system should be commented. The change of the elections system should be discussed by the civil society and also take into consideration the recommendations of the European Council, the Venice Commission and the Association Bureau for democratic institutions and human rights.
We will monitor the consequences of the new election code, in order to provide the democracy.
We discussed about the Moldovan Government's efforts to make politics to integrate the persons who belong to different national minorities and to talk with all the parts and spheres of the society.
Regarding the transnistrean conflict, the last positive evolution will permit the citizens from the both banks of Nistru to benefit of the same advantages. EU supports the peaceful solutions for the transnistrean conflict in the 5+2 format. We support the efforts of the Italian Presidency in this sense.
The cooperation continues in many sectors, among which the Eastern Partnership and here I want to thank the Mr. Prime minister for the positive contribution that he had within the Eastern Partnership summit that took place this autumn in Brussels. It is very important for the Republic of Moldova to respect the responsibilities it has regarding to the Association Agreement and to implement those. As always, you can count on us and on the European Union. We will be a strong partner and friend", declared Federica Mogherini, the high representatives of the EU.
PUBLIKA.MD reminds that these days took place the fourth reunion of the Association Council between the Republic of Moldova and the EU, where Pavel Filip also participated.
At the event there were discussed the reforms in justice, fight against corruption, development of the business sphere and the civil society.
