Former MP Iurie Bolboceanu, accused of espionage and treason, was officially sued. The Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes has completed the case file and sent it to the magistrates.
According to prosecutors, officers of the Russian Intelligence Directorate recruited the former MP in the fall of 2016. Bolboceanu's goal was to collect and deliver information of national interest, including data on important national strategies, personal data of senior officials, and important information on the implementation of the Association Agreement with the European Union.
Bolboceanu, who was rewarded with fabulous sums for his actions, was handcuffed on March 17 during the very moment he was sending some files to an undercover agent attached to the Russian Embassy in Chisinau.
If found guilty, the former deputy risks being sent to prison for up to 20 years.
