Front-runners, split from DA Platform Party of fugitive gangsters Victor and Viorel Țopa, dislike uninominal voting
The front-runners, dropped from the ranks of the Dignity and Truth (DA) Platform Party of the fugitive gangsters Victor and Viorel Țopa, slam the uninominal voting, which is backed by 80 % of citizens. Voința Poporului Party representatives have told a news conference that the draft is questionable.
The move’s authors however announced ensuing debates on the bill, which will also get the expertise of the Venice Commission.
"The uninominal voting system destroys party structures, the basis of democracy. The uninominal vote is not as representative as the proportional plebiscite," said Ştefan Urâtu, a founder of Voinţa Poporului (rom. for People’s Will.)
"Do you want to manipulate the public opinion, saying the Diaspora will have their MPs? Isn’t it a fraud? The uninominal vote is a trap," said Anton Vica, another founding member.
Earlier, the Popular Party, the Green Ecologist Party and the Frontul Salvării Moldovei Party had voiced their support for the move.
