The Chisinau authorities have installed surveillance cameras in a big park in Chisinau, called Valea Morilor. The system cost about $25,000 and the municipality hopes it will thus prevent vandals from damaging public goods.
The cameras will work permanently as the images will be kept two weeks.
"It’s necessary to insure the citizens’ safety. Then there are these acts of vandalism when the benches are thrown into the lake," explained deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu.
The lifeguards also hope the cameras will ease their job.
The local administration’s plan is to install cameras in all the parks from Chisinau.
