German politician Manfred Weber is the candidate of the European People's Party for the post of President of the European Commission.The decision was taken at the party congress, which took place today in the capital of Finland, Helsinki. Of the total of 621 votes, he earned 492.
Manfred Weber is 46 years old and is the leader of the EPP Group in the European Parliament and member of the Christian-Social Union of Bavaria.The politician played a key role in making the EPP Group the most united political force in the plenary in Brussels.
Last June, in the European Parliament, Weber had a meeting with the President of the Democratic Party of Moldova, Vlad Plahotniuc. The two discussed the need to preserve pro-European governance after the 2019 parliamentary elections.
The electoral reform, the fight against corruption and the prohibition of propaganda were also addressed.
