The Holy Fire was lit at Jerusalem's Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
Thousands of Christians from all over the world gathered in Jerusalem to participate in the ceremony on the Great Saturday.
Worshipers lit their torches and candles from a flame that is believed to represent peace, divinity and rebirth. It is miraculously lit every year at the tomb of Jesus on the eve of Orthodox Easter.
The Holy Fire is then taken to other Orthodox communities across the world.
It will reach the Nativity Cathedral from Chisinau at around 20:00.
