Hundreds of Moldovan elders to benefit from home care services
Hundreds of elders in the north of the country will benefit from free medical and social services at home even in a project over from the Europeans. Assistants will assist elders with shopping, personal hygiene and help them in the household. Services will be provided by non-governmental associations in the area.
Two years ago, Eugenia from Parlita village, Falesti district has fractured her hand. Since then she can hardly move her arm and can not reach the medical center because of health problems. The representatives of the "Casmed" Association in Balti town have helped the woman.
60-per-cent out of the total services are paid by foreign donors and the remaining costs are assumed by local authorities and beneficiaries. Romania has about 25 years experience in this field.
"Local governments have the responsibility to solve problems of the elderly and disabled people. Of course you also receive funds from the center, directly intended for these tasks" , said theDirector of the Caritas Department in Romania, Peter Gyorgy.
The "Casmed" Association is providing home care services in about 30 towns in country's north, including in Balti town. Annually, over 1,500 elderly receive help.
