An economic agent in Chişinău is being prosecuted for smuggling of consumer goods in particularly large proportions. Its illegal activity has been revealed by the specialized subdivisions of the Customs Service who have been in possession of information that under the banner of the import of used goods the trader would also introduce various assortments of new goods.

The information was confirmed after Mobile Teams stopped a truck of that company for checks. In the cargo compartment, they found several lots of new consumer goods (clothing, footwear, household items, etc.), although only worn clothing was indicated in the statement.

The checks were extended to the warehouse held by the suspect. Here, customs officers have discovered more bags of worn-out underwear, which is forbidden to import.

Totally, 6,327 kg of goods were seized, the value of which was estimated at approximately 3.2 million lei. The research continues to elucidate all the circumstances of the offense and to hold the persons involved accountable. If they are found guilty, the defendants are at risk of imprisonment for a period of 3 to 10 years.

The prosecution is carried out by the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Causes.
