Interim Director of a Professional School from Capital arrested for forcing children to work under horrible conditions
Interim Director of Professional School No. 2 from the Capital, Valentina Dobândă, was arrested for exploitation of child Labor. She was taken into custody after searches were made in her office and car. Pupils claimed that they worked under horrible conditions and were not paid much for their services. According to them, teenagers were sent to work both in Moldova, as well as Romania.
One of the victims worked in a hotel from Romania last summer and claims the conditions horrible.
"I worked 12 hours per day, under horrible living conditions, we slept 10 people in one room, the food was bad, were fed genetically modified food. I heard from pupils that worked previous summers in Romania. Unlike us, they were not even paid" a pupils said.
The girl claims that last December, she was obligated to write a request confirming that she was satisfied with the conditions: "I was called to the office with Madam Guţan and was told to write and sign that everything was great in Romania".
Teachers defend the director and claim that she acted according to the rules.
"It is normal for children to participate in exchange programs. We do not speak here of salaries, but of the fact that everything was done by the book. 50% of the income was given to the pupils, while the other 50% to the extra-budgetary funds. The director could not take the money from the children's pockets" teacher Ilie Pădureţ declared.
Prosecutors and Pfficers from Center for Combating Human Trafficking have searched this morning the office of institution's interim director. During that time, the woman started feeling unwell and required medical assistance.
She was arrested and now risks to 20 years of imprisonment for exploitation of child Labor.
