Interpol refuses to issue international search for former PDM leader
Interpol has refused to issue an international search for the former PDM leader Vladimir Plahotniuc. Furthermore, the institution decided to delete his personal data from the Interpol register. The General Prosecutor's Office announced this decision in a press release.
In a letter to the Chisinau authorities, the Interpol File Control Commission states that "maintaining the data on the applicant is not compatible with the organization's obligation to ensure effective cooperation between police authorities in the spirit of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights."
The General Prosecutor's Office announces that it will ask the PGI to submit a request to explain the reasons for this refusal.
One month ago, the Attorney General's Office sent to the US competent authorities a set of documents regarding the extradition request of the former PD leader in order to be prosecuted in Moldova.
At the same time, the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office and the PCCOCS sent two requests for rogatory commission to their American colleagues in order to administer the necessary evidence to confirm the accusations brought against Vlad Plahotniuc.
The former PDM leader was announced in an international search, after being convicted of setting up and running a criminal organization, swindling and money laundering.
Earlier, Plahotniuc's lawyer, Lucian Rogac, told the press that the files were political and were initiated at the behest of the current government in order to distract society before the presidential election.
