Interview with FMF President. Pavel Cebanu, about national goals in League of Nations and why sport is in decline in Moldova
Six days separated us from the start of Moldova's national football team in the new league, the League of Nations. Our country will support six parties in this preliminary tour with Luxembourg, Belarus and San Marino. The home games will be broadcast live by PRIME TV, and those on the move by CANAL 3.
On September 8, Tricolors will play away with Luxembourg, and Prime TV reporter Mihai Sitnic has learned from the President of the Moldovan Football Federation what national goals are in the League of Nations, but also why lately the sports king is in decline in our country.
Mihai Sîtnic: Mr. President, please let us know what this competition means for you - the League of Nations? First of all for you as a federation president.
Pavel Cebanu: A new cup. A new edition of a tournament is always something interesting for us. For our small countries it is something special because it gives us yet another chance to get into the final stage of the European Championship. All boys understand and all the people in football and the spectators are waiting for this tournament. We all expect a positive result in this tournament.
Mihai Sîtnic: What is the goal of the selected?
Pavel Cebanu: Another goal can not be that the group is not so strong. There are no heads of the series as in the preliminaries. I did not fall into a group with the Netherlands, Italy or Germany. All teams except San Marino are equal in our group. We are the equals of Belarus and Luxembourg, so we have to put our bone to the beat and play in every match to win. We must aim to win the group and after seeing which opponent we will play, but I think it will still be one of our level. Then we will set another goal: to qualify further.
Mihai Sîtnic: When he was installed as a selector, Mr. Spiridon said he wants to play a nice football. What would you like to play a good eyeball, but do not get better or better, and fight for each point, because there will not be six simple matches. There will be six finals.
Pavel Cebanu: How did you ask me this question and I will answer. I want to win and to have nice and beautiful matches. Everyone wants it. If we in these six matches, four will play well and we will win, and two will play worse and get points, it will be good for us. Now we're following what Spiridon does. Now experiments can no longer be. For this reason, the first match of 8 will demonstrate: how well we have prepared for the whole year, how boys approach.
Still, I want to mention that if 10 years ago with Luxemburg and we all considered our favorites now is not so. Now the times have changed. Having a class, walking around during a game and winning, there is no such thing. Now all have learned to play. There are 2 teams in the world playing with the class. The rest must bend the bone. The boys must understand that they enter the field and play for our country, for father, mother. To think a little and to those coaches who stayed in the cold in winter and trained them to become big footballers. Only then can you get points and get victories.
Mihai Sîtnic: So there is a huge pressure not only on the main coach but also on the players, because I fell in the FIFA rankings very much.
Pavel Cebanu: We talk to our players. They give interviews everywhere that we want to get up. They have to understand that even when I was a player, even if it is now considered the best Sheriff team, that does not mean that my goal is to get to Sheriff only. I'm not talking about Real or Barcelona. They must think about Steaua Bucharest or Russia at CSKA. Let's get to teams in Italy to play.
I do not want to give names, but if they initially at a club have shown that they can play well and have arrived at Sheriff, she took them for some qualities, now they do not look like those players before they are transferred. They have arrived there and are ready to think that they have fulfilled their dream and do not have to grow. That does not have to be the case. I always tell them they have to have their goal. Be leaders in their teams not to come Brazilians and lead them to their teams.
And when I was playing in the team, we were strangers, but we were not allowed to be led by them. I was Tegleaţov, Mătura, Ciobanu. We are in place. We did not allow anyone else to lead us, to lead us. I can not imagine that. But they are aside. They still think that others will come, they will beat, and they will be next. It's not possible this way. You have to be a leader. As much as you are given, 8 or 10 years, but it plays great football.
Mihai Sitnic: Why is this happening?
Pavel Cebanu: Because they have no goals. Many players have no goals. I hate Dedov and many. At first he scored two goals in Azerbaijan, but now practically does not play. He somewhere fulfilled his objects that he has made a contract. Get the parallel oil and now it should not grow.
I know the potential and that's why it hurts me. I look at Suvorov. What a player he could be. It had everything from God. They are always looking to move to weaker teams where there are no requirements. And we all the time Moldovans are looking to blame the coaches, the referees do not even speak the federation. But it still depends on man and man. See Jonathan, he plays. Not helped by anyone. Bad, well, he runs and strives, although he does not have some of the qualities that I have spoken to Suvorov. Only through work. You need to put your bone to the beat.
Mihai Sîtnic: Who in the national team should assume the leading role and then in the difficult moments the team should draw. We have not had a leader for a long time to see that he is banging the boys from behind. Who should be that leader?
Pavel Cebanu: The last such leader, I saw him as Spiridon as a player. He may not have scored so many players, but it was like Vaja Tarhnişvili at Sheriff. He does not have to show through the game that he is the leader. He has to direct the game in the field. Be the coach's help on the field. As it was before us. In our case the coach did not even enter the locker room because objects were flying there.
We alone spoke and we were arguing why we did not put our bone to the beat. That's something I do not see right now. Now they have washed and fled to the clubs, but the coach, the president, your 20 rooms, 20 microphones, we have to answer everybody. It would have been nice to answer after the game just before the game. Before I played a bad game I was waiting for my evening newspaper. And when I saw that I was not criticized by journalists, then I was relieved. Now it is not. Soccer players do not take responsibility.
We have to thank them that they still come to the national. Okay, if you come in then you're forced to play. We are not allowed to lose. It does not matter who we are in the group. Nor is the question asked. How strong it would not be. I play at home. We have slept on our sleeves and ready is our victory. Unless the opponent has ten heads and unless something catastrophic happens, something else might happen. Maybe it'll happen again to catch a bad day. No matter what effort the boys would not do, they would not let them go. Then yes, you have nothing to complain about, but they do not have to think of anything else, the club team or other matches. That does not have to be.
