Irakli Kobakhidze: Only together, will we be able to achieve our aims and face all the challenges and threats
Only together with our partners - Moldova and Ukraine, can we achieve our aims and ensure local peace and democracy. Together, we can face all the challenges and threats. The declaration was made by Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairperson of the Parliament of Georgia, at the beginning of the inter-parliamentary summit "Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine: Eastern Partnership and current security challenges".
"I wish to speak of the common challenges we are facing, it is the right time to speak of our common position to those threats that grows in our region, including in Georgia, which continues to grow stronger. Our economy develops, our public institutions become less influenced by politics. Georgia's trust in pro-Western policy grows. Georgia is placed in a specific region, where all foreign pressures comes from a single country, which is the reason for us to have strong relations with our foreign partners, U.S. and EU. It is important to continue rising public awareness, because no country, regardless of how strong it is, cannot fight alone against all threats and challenges. Only together, including with our partners Moldova and Ukraine, can we achieve our aims and ensure local peace and democracy" Chairperson of the Parliament of Georgia said.
Representatives of Parliaments, of United States Congress, Members of the European Parliament participate at the first inter-parliamentary summit on security challenges, held at Chisinau. The events is also attended by renown experts such as executive vice president at the Atlantic Council of the United States, Damon Wilson, former United States Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, David Kramer, Chairman of the International Advisory Council at the Center for Social and Economic Research, Anders Åslund, Coordinator for the Office of Reconstruction and Stabilization, John Herbst, Ambassador Asif Chaudhry, Associate Director, Strategic Research Partnerships, and International Directo, Jonathan Eyal, Ambassador Alexander Vershbow, former Deputy Secretary-General of NATO, as well as other international and regional experts.
