The priorities and challenges of the Republic of Moldova in the process of European integration were discussed today, September 14, at the meeting of Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Iurie Leanca, with the delegation of Estonia-Moldova Parliamentary Friendship Group, headed by group chairman Erki Savisaar.
During the discussions, the parties approached the current situation of the Moldovan-community relations in the light of the latest political developments in our country, the achievements of the implementation of the Association Agreement and the Free Trade Agreement with the EU were outlined, Estonia's expectations in the context of the elections parliamentary elections to be held in Moldova in February 2019.
The Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister has argued that the only solution for our country's development is the integration into the European Union without which we will not succeed in ensuring, in a near future, a decent future for the Moldovan citizens, including reforming the justice sector.
"We are aware of the shortcomings of the Moldovan justice, the invalidation of the elections in Chisinau and other decisions of the judges affected the relations with the foreign partners". The zero priority now is to eliminate all the existing gaps and to ensure free and fair elections and here, undoubtedly, we need EU support. The example of reforming the judiciary in Albania with the help of the European community would be a solution for us, too, "Iurie said.
On the other hand, the Estonian MEPs expressed their conviction that Moldova must follow the European path and expressed the willingness to share Estonia's experience with the key reforms implemented by our country, but also to support Moldova's efforts in the European capitals.
