Litter once again became an issue in Bălţi. A few days before Easter, the yards of apartment blocks are filled with trash. This problem always appears when the weather warms up and the quantity of waste increases. 

The issue begun when the City Hall annulled the contract with the company that used to collect waste and the City Hall's enterprise could not manage the job.

Citizens from Bălți are unhappy and claim that they must bear horrible odor and awful sights.

"This is a disaster, but there is nothing we can do about it. People throw away trash wherever, since all the dumpsters are filled to the brim."

"This is a grave situation. We pay for the trash to be taken out, then why is it still here?"

"We hate that there is always such a mess. Somebody should make order."

"Measures will soon be taken to evacuate all existing waste. If the agent doing the job cannot manage, they will be sanctioned" inspector from Bălți Environment Agency, Vadim Matcovshi said.

Representatives from Road Repair and Construction Department were not found for comments. Local authorities have taken upon themselves to evacuate waste at the end of last year, after annulling a contract with a private company.

It caused a waste crisis to break out and required the Government's implication. Before New Year's 15 vehicles and dozens of workers and carabineers from Chisinau were sent to Bălţi to clean the city.
