Memorial Easter in Moldova: A lot of broke into Capital cemeteries
The beggars were very active in Moldova during the Memorial Easter. A lot of beggars came in Sfantul Lazar cemetery from the Capital and gathered food and money for at least two weeks.
A man said he came from Falesti for begging, as he needs to provide his family money.
"I suffered an accident and I got this disability for my entire life."
The young said that this year he gained a big amount of money for the Memorial Easter. He said he earned more than a pastor usually does.
"How much money do you have?
-40 lei."
"-They are not giving money this year, right?
-No.
-Are you mad about the income?
-Well, a bit."
Some beggars run away when they saw the camera.
"-Where are you from?"
"-Why are you using your children to beg?"
In the Republic of Moldova, the law prohibits begging. Instead, the mothers use their children in such actions. They are punished by being fined by 750 lei or working 25 hours of community work.
The pastors are worried that over the past period, more and more people beg.
"It is better to go to an asylum and give some food to an old person than to the beggars", said Nicolae Tudoreanu, pastor.
Besides money and food, some of the beggars also got alcohol. Many of them drank it in the cemetery and fell asleep on the graves
