The United States calls on the Chisinau authorities to ensure a free and fair presidential election in which the will of the voters is respected. The message was conveyed by US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale in a separate discussion with President and Independent Candidate Igor Dodon and former Prime Minister Maia Sandu, who is the PAS candidate in the November 1 election.
A short statement from the US State Department states that all candidates for head of state must have a level playing field and equal access to the media, as well as eliminate the possibility of external financing of election campaigns.
The US official stressed that the US will monitor Moldova's presidential election, including through OSCE observers.Although the telephone conversation took place on October 9, Maia Sandu and Igor Dodon did not announce this on their official pages.
