Interior Minister Andrei Nastase wants to fight crime in Moldova through prayers. A crucifix was installed on the wall of the Ministry hall, and the dignitary urged his colleagues to pray before entering his office. The inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of the Metropolitan of Moldova, Vladimir and of the Metropolitan of Bessarabia, Peter.

"The cross is our symbol, it is our weapon against the devil," said Metropolitan of Moldova.

Andrei Nastase tried to convince the two metropolises that the institution he runs is a Christian one. Moreover, he even called himself the minister of God.

"I was probably harassed by God to lead it for a while," said Interior Minister Andrei Nastase.

His speech was interrupted by people rallying outside. According to the protesters, the ministry should fight crime rather than install crucifixes. They accused Andrei Nastase of populism.

"Andrei Năstase is a mind of the Middle Ages, does not analyze the society and installs crucifixes instead of dealing with the problems of the ministry," said the activist, Vitalie Lisnic.

In reply, Nastase said he would pray. Andrei Nastase avoided saying how much the crucifix cost, but said it was a donation.
