MOLDOVA IS THREATENED BY SWINE FEVER. 17 infection outbreaks in last 10 days
17 outbreaks of swine fever have been recorded in the last 10 days in our country. The announcement was made by Gheorghe Gaberi, the general manager of the National Food Safety Agency after the meeting of the Commission for Emergency Situations.
"In recent weeks, the country has an alarming situation, especially in some districts in the south of the country, in the Stefan Voda district in the villages along the Nistru River, but also in the Cahul district and the villages in the Prut meadow. 10 days 17 outbreaks of African swine fever and at the same time several wild boar carcasses which have been subjected to laboratory tests and have confirmed the existence of this virus have been detected.
This is an alarming situation, especially since the fieldwork began, the harvesting of corn, and we convinced that virus bearers are not just boars, but also animal food", said Gheorghe Gaberi, the general manager of the National Agency for food safety.
Gheorghe Gaberi also said that urgent measures will be taken to eradicate wild boar in the coming period.
"We have adopted a plan of measures that will be implemented in the coming period. All state institutions will be involved in implementing these measures, we will have a great mission to inform people how to eliminate this problem. will be cut down to reduce the number of wild boar and not just wild boar, because they are also rapacious animals that carry the virus further", said Gheorghe Gaberi.
Pigs should be destroyed and all procedures performed according to the legislation in order to avoid the spread of this disease.
"We will not be able to test each animal in laboratory conditions, because it is too expensive, a laboratory test costs about 30 euros, and it also takes three days. That's why, taking the experience of Romania that has already destroyed over 250,000 pigs and is currently in the process of destroying the stock of the largest farm in Romania with 140,000 pigs and here we can make the conclusions, or we can get there or take more drastic measures. call for counselors' support, town mayors, these measures are discussed and the responsibilities of all participants in the process are established.
That is why this work has to be prepared and done so that people understand what the benefits are", said Gheorghe Gaberi, the general manager of the National Food Safety Agency", said Gheorghe Gaberi.
According to experts, the source of the spread of swine fever is wild boar. In Romania, the authorities decided to hunt wild pigs. According to them, this is difficult, because the boars move very quickly and it is not easy to find them.
