Moldova preparing for winter: while some already finished, others just starting
Summer is not the time where only sledges are getting ready for winter, but also provisions. Our citizens already started preparation for the winter season.
Those who have already purchased wood, have chopped and stored it by now. Others just now began their trips to wholesale markets.
Despite the fact that firewood, for now, can be purchased for the same price as last year, a ton of coal became nearly 300 lei more expensive.
Iurie Cojocari from Tahnauti village, Rezina region, always starts for winter since spring time. This year he bought a square meter of wood for 550 lei.
“In only four months the prices rose by 100 lei. During winter, a single family require 5 to 6 meters of wood, so I consider myself lucky to have purchased them since spring, having now a spare square meter of wood.” Iurie Cojocari, a villager from Tahnauti, said.
Ghenadie Crijanovschi also purchased his firewood a few months back. After letting them dry he chopped and stored them.
“When we have money in spring, we usually buy wood in order to let it dry. Those offer better heat during winter.” Ghenadie Crijanovchi, a villager from Tahnauti, said.
This year, Moldsilva offers to our citizens nearly 177 thousand square meters of wood. The price for softwood is sold for 534 lei per meter, while hardwood is sold for 252 lei per meter.
“Agents purchase wood from the producers for 534 and 252 lei and are raising the prices after transporting them to market places,” Ion Haralampov, general director of “Moldsilva”, said.
At the moment, in our capital, exactly a meter of wood costs around 800 lei. Those who wish to use such fuel need to hurry, since the merchants are warning us about a further rise in prices.
“The price of one square meter of wood is 900-1.000 lei, being 200-300 lei more expensive than last year” merchant Ion Tibreanschi said.
The price for a ton of coal rose this year by 300 lei. Merchants claim that it is due to the fact that unlike last year, when our country gained coal from Ukraine, this year the fuel is delivered to us from Russia.
“A ton of coal now costs 3.900-4.100 lei and will most likely rise, due to an increase in price of 20 dollar by the manufacturers”
Those who are using wood pallets to warm up will have to spend 3,400 lei per a tone, while those using sunflower crust – 2,700 lei.
