Three citizens of Comrat town are being investigated for smuggling with consumer goods, estimated at over 300 thousand lei. The three bought the goods from Ukraine and brought those illegally into the country through the Transnistrian region.The suspects have been detained while selling goods near Mihailovca village, Cimislia district. They were driving two vehicles, one of which was designed to carry smuggled goods, and the other was used to inspect the road. The cars were escorted by the Customs Service.
Following the check, customs officers counted 1 039 clothing, 367 footwear, 71 belts and 27 organic leather bags. Most have trademarks of well-known brands and are therefore likely to infringe upon intellectual property rights.
A criminal case for smuggling was opened on behalf of individuals in particularly large proportions. If they are found guilty, individuals are at risk of up to 10 years in prison.
