Moldovan political crisis explained by Dumitru Mînzărari: Kozak's alliance ACUM-PSRM will lead to a deeper crisis
Why did Dodon accept the proposals of ACUM after he announced he'd agree with snap elections? Why did DPM refused the offer of PSRM and announced snap elections? In an article published by Jamestown Foundation, Dumitru Minzarari politics expert offered the answer of these questions.
Dumitru says that the causes of creating this coalition are multiple:
"In this situation, Dodon's fear was the main factory and so was the fury of Dmitrii Kozak who understood DPM's manipulations. Thus, knowing the Russian culture, they would have punished DPM and made a temporary coalition with ACUM", said Dumitru Manzarari.
The expert also said that following the removal of Plahotniuc from power and the triggering of snap elections, Russia hopes to be able to assist the PSRM in overcoming the current scandal linking it to Moscow and nevertheless win a parliamentary majority.
"To achieve this goal, Russia will use its continuously improving elections interference “technology,” its ability to penetrate and dominate the Moldovan informational space, and additional funds. Therefore, ACUM and other pro-European parties in Moldova will face a much more formidable opponent in the next elections than Vlad Plahotniuc and the DPM. Without the support of the United States and European Union to resist election interference, Moldova could become easy prey for the Kremlin. Meanwhile, a more robust role for Moldova’s Western partners is needed to convince the Democratic Party to ensure the peaceful transfer of power, as hesitation could lead to a violent civil conflict."
Dumitru also thinks that the decision to make a coalition with PSRM would be an excuse for ACUM. They made a big mistake by giving them the ministries of Defense and Reintegration. They should have offered them other ministries.
