Moldovans working abroad don't forget their roots. Natives invested money in local projects
Moldovans working abroad are investing their earned money to develop the settlements they were born in. Only in the first three months of the year, 3 400 Moldovans from all over the world transferred to their home villages over one million lei. The funds were collected by Natives' Association, in partnership with the Village Halls.
Most money were sent to Copceac village, Găgăuzia, within a project "Migration and Local Development", implemented by United Nations Development Programme. For each project, Switzerland's Government is adding a grant of 15 000 USD. Villagers from Copceac will use the money to purchase a grader.
"The total budget will be of 52 000 USD. Out of them: 15 000 is grant, 13 000 offered by the Village Hall and the community, while another 14 000 by regional authorities. The money will also be used for snow removal works and to evacuate unauthorized waste" Mayor of Copceac, Oleg Garizan declared.
Vasili Iusiumbeli is one of the natives who invested in the projects. He has been living in Turkey for the past 24 years.
"I feel that this is my duty. I try to help as much as I can. We return home once per five, six years. The village is developing, but there is so much more that we wish to do" Vasilii Iusiumbeli said.
The man is ready to invest money in other projects as well. Local authorities plan to build in the village a retirement home.
According to the project, the dormitory used by doctors will be rebuilt and it will become a retirement home able to host to 25 beneficiaries.
Mayor of Copceac claims that since 1999, the natives working abroad also helped repair multiple roads from the village.
"It used to be horrible. The mud would reach our knees, but now all is well."
"With the repaired road the Ambulance no longer has issues reaching us."
In 2009, the community joined forces with natives working abroad to build a church in Copceac.
"The church is the symbol of a human's soul. People feel attached to this church, as it was not build from a sponsor's money" father Vitali Zelinschi mentioned.
In 2017, the "Migration and Local Development" project was implemented in 38 settlements from the Country.
