Moldovans from scores of countries welcome the initiative of introducing the uninominal voting at the parliamentary elections. The people from the Diaspora will have – for the first time – the right to elect their MPs. Some fellow countrymen say the initiative is likely to enable them to elect deputies that could help them solve their problems. 

Asked by a Publika TV crew on the Chișinău airport, many travelling Moldovans say the law-makers to be elected in constituencies will better realize their problems:

"We don’t even know the MPs, they don’t come to the U.S.A. The Moldovans’ problems may be resolved, if we have our MPs. For examples the issues linked to passports and visas.”

"This initiative is very necessary; I think it’s supported by all those living in Russia... They could solve issues related to the stay, so that we don’t have problems when crossing the border."

"It’s necessary, we, the ones living abroad, do have problems, but nobody takes us into consideration.”

Moldovans living abroad also expect the law-makers to pass laws encouraging them to return to the homeland.

Last Monday, the leader of the Democratic Party, Vlad Plahotniuc, announced the modification of the electoral system. The Democrats want the citizens to be able to withdraw the mandate of an MP, unless he keeps his promises.

A poll carried out by Intellect Group shows about 80 % of the interviewed are favorable to the uninominal voting.
