Romania is the main trading partner of the Republic of Moldova. According to the National Statistics Bureau, the neighbor is the main destination for Moldovan exporters. Also, more and more Romanian companies have been expanding their activities in Moldova in the past years.
Moldova sold more than half a billion dollars worth of goods in Romania last year, which represents a quarter of total exports in our country. At the same time, Chisinau imported products worth more than 550 million dollars from this country.
Several Romanian companies such as Petrom, Rompetrol, Banca Comercială Română and Banca Transilvania have expanded their activity in recent years in Moldova.
In 2010 Romania granted Moldova a fund of 100 million euros.
Another project funded by Romania is the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline, which was inaugurated in August 2014. Bucharest also provided us a 150 million euro credit for state-funded projects. So far, Moldova has received two installments of this loan.
