MORE EFFICIENT CUSTOMS PROCEDURES. Freight carriers will no longer stand in line
Freight transporters will cross the border more easily and will no longer have to stand for hours in line.
The Customs Service has implemented an electronic system where truck operators will be able to forward preliminary cargo data through a customs pre-declaration.
Customs inspectors will have all the necessary information, without wasting time to compile the data manually.
The change is only valid for TIR Carrier carriers and members of the AITA Association.
"With the presentation of the freight transport units at the customs posts, the customs officer will introduce the TIR carnet number and the full customs system of the Republic of Moldova will take over these preliminary data", said the chief inspector of the Transit Section within the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova, Vitalie Ceban.
If so far a TIR carnet was handmade by the customs inspector in about 15 minutes, the procedure will be much simpler and faster.
"The TIR-EPD program saves us time, which means it makes us all the economic agents to make more money", said Mihai Usatii, President of the International Carrier Association.
Since March 18, since the launch of the pilot project, 71 Moldovan carriers have already completed 232 electronic declarations.
"We are carriers. Time is costing money. So we save both money and time".
"I want to thank for the work that has been done. We are doing the job more qualitatively and, as a result, we all win".
The Head of the Customs Service says the application allows verification procedures to comply with European directives.
"We had to have a happy junction to have an USAID project to support us financially. We will in the near future implement the new computerized transit system. And at the end of 2019 this product will be made," said the head of the Service Customs of the Republic of Moldova, Vitalie Vrabie.
The new version is provided by AITA and is implemented with the support of the USAID Structural Reform Program in Moldova.
"The USAID program actively collaborates with the Customs Service to carry out a number of initiatives, including the Commercial Information Portal, the Upgrading of the Customs Contact Center and a Border Waiting System". We hope they will have the same expected effects", said USAID's Steven Welker Moldova.
The TIR-EPD system is used by international cargo carriers in 35 countries in Europe and Asia.
