Municipal enterprises from Bălți have a total debt of 137 million lei
Accounts of Bălți City Hall might be suspended, warned Finance Ministry. Municipal Enterprises that have access to those accounts for infrastructure projects cannot repay the money.
Local authorities were guaranteed, so all accumulated debts will be paid out of the local budget.
"72 millions 600 lei is the debt Apă Canal has to the Ministry of Finance. Out of it, 11 million 847 thousand lei had to be paid by January 1. If Apă Canal will not pay up all debts, then the account of the municipal budget will be suspended" head of Finance Department from Bălți City Hall, Vera Rusu said.
In 2007, Apă Canal Bălți took a 3 million euro credit from EBRD to renovate the sewage system. Recently tough, this enterprise can no longer pay the monthly rate. The institution gathered a debt of nearly 104 million lei to the energy suppliers and Acva-Nord Soroca. At the request of the debtors, the enterprises accounts were suspended by the court. Local authorities requested the Ministry of Finance to come up with a solution.
"Those debts will be examined. Maybe it will be solved by rescheduling the debts. Those credits have to be paid in 30 to 35 years, but we might request the time limit to be raised to 40 years, for the monthly rate to be smaller and said company to be able to pay it" head of Finance Department from Bălți City Hall, Vera Rusu said.
