More than 300 National Army soldiers donated blood during the campaign organized by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection and the National Blood Transfusion Center on the occasion of the World Blood Donor Day.
According to the head of the medical-military directorate, Lieutenant Colonel Sergiu Cîrlan, Defense Minister Eugen Sturza, together with 50 students of the Military Academy "Alexandru cel Bun", 20 Military officers of the "Stefan cel Mare" Brigade and the Antiaerian Missile Regiment volunteered blood on Thursday, June 14, at the collection center of the "Stefan cel Mare" Public Garden in Chisinau. Another 50 contract troops from the Dacia Brigade donated blood to Cahul.
The quoted source added that on Tuesday, June 12, about 200 soldiers from the "Moldova" Brigade and the 22nd Peacekeeping Battalion donated blood to the collection centers in Balti.
Note that in April this year the Ministry of Defense in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection and the National Blood Transfusion Center organized a campaign called "A Way to Life", which aimed to encourage the society to donate blood for saving lives. Approximately 500 soldiers from the Motorized Infantry Brigades "Moldova", "Stefan cel Mare" and "Dacia", the Antiaerian Missile Regiment, the Artillery Division from Ungheni, the Military Camp 142, as well as the students of the Military Academy "Alexandru cel Bun" donated blood during that campaign.
The World Health Organization decided in 2005 to dedicate a special day to blood donors. Thus, June 14 was declared the World Blood Donor Day.
