National Bureau of Statistics: Regions' contribution to Moldovan GDP
The capital is not only the administrative and political center of the country, but also its economic heart. The main financial flows start from here, the main business organizations and largest energy and infrastructure companies are located in Chisinau.
Consequently, the first report on Gross Domestic Product on regions, by the National Bureau of Statistics indicates that Chisinau area has the largest contribution in the formation and evolution of Moldovan economy.
As it was predictable, Chisinau has the largest contribution to GDP by nearly 60-per-cent. Capital is the largest city in the country, where almost a third of the population live permanently or temporarily.
Chisinau Municipality leads with 53-per-cent at Industry, 75-per-cent in the construction field and still brings the greatest contribution in services, which is 67-per-cent.
The North is the next in the top in terms of its contribution to GDP, with a share of over 18-per-cent. The largest city in the region is Balti, where the two largest producers of alcoholic beverages, but also one of the most dynamic free economic zones in the country. The entire agribusiness of sugar production, but also two of the biggest enterprises of building materials are concentrarea in the Northern region. The report also shows that agriculture in the northern region contributes with 35-per-cent.
Central region contributes with 16-per-cent to gross domestic product. The adjacent to the capital cities, and major canneries and wine production are located in this area. The presence of food businesses stimulate the agricultural sector.
South Region's contribution to GDP with over 8-per-cent. Cahul is the main city in southern region. The region is famous for its wine-growing households, and sheep breeding. Also the main object of infrastructure and logistics in the country, port cargo and oil terminal is located Giurgiuleşti town.
The Gagauz region is last in the list, with a contribution of almost 3-per-cent to the GDP. Gagauzia is the smallest region so that the area, number of population, but also agro-industrial potential.
