NATO LIAISON OFFICE to be opened in Moldova
A NATO liaison office will appear in Moldova. This is provided by the decree of President Nicolae Timofti on starting negotiations and signing the agreement between Moldova and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization on creating a liaison office in the RM, published in the Monitorul Oficial governmental bulletin on Friday, reports Infotag .
As Infotag has already reported, the NATO announced about the intention to open a liaison office in Moldova back in 2014. The then representative of Moldova in the North Atlantic Alliance Mihai Gribincea was saying that due to this office, Moldovan authorities will get direct connection with NATO representatives, while the Alliance will first-hand be getting information about events in Moldova, which will help identifying needs of reforming sectors in the defense security.
According to the Moldovan permanent representative in NATO, the opening of the office will emphasize the country’s desire to work jointly with the North Atlantic Alliance, preserving at the same time its neutral status.
Initially it was planned that the office will be opened in 2015.
The NATO has similar structures in many countries. For example, in Tbilisi there is a NATO Bureau for Liaison and Interaction Georgia, while in Moscow – a NATO Information Office. In Chisinau, a NATO Information Center is working for already several years.
