NATO supports integrity and sovereignty of Moldova

Moldovan Ambassador to Belgium, Lilian Darii, held a meeting with Jens Stoltenberg, NATO General Secretary and presented the letters of accreditation to the post of Head Mission of the Republic of Moldova to NATO.
During the meeting, the officials discussed about Moldova's cooperation with the North Atlantic Alliance, with insistence on the implementation of the objectives set in the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) between our country and NATO. Also, issues related to the implementation of the provisions of the Defense Capacity Building Initiative were addressed, in the context of the Moldovan Mission to NATO thanked the Alliance for the support offered to our country in the process of reforming the national security and defense sector and reconfirmed the interest of the authorities in Chisinau to continue to benefit from the experience and expertise of the North Atlantic Alliance.
Referring to the issues of national and regional security, Ambassador Lilian Darii stressed the position of the Republic of Moldova on the need to regulate the Transnistrian problem within the 5 + 2 negotiations format, respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova. The Moldovan official also reiterated the need to withdraw the Russian military troops from the territory of the Republic of Moldova and to transform the current peacekeeping operation from the Transnistrian region into a civilian mission with an international mandate.
At his turn, Jens Stoltenberg, NATO General Secretary reconfirmed the position of the North Atlantic Alliance to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, noting that the level of cooperation and the concrete fields of interaction with NATO are established exclusively by to the Republic of Moldova, in accordance with the constitutional provisions and according to its national interests. The NATO General Secretary also expressed gratitude for the important contribution of the Republic of Moldova to strengthening European security by deploying the Moldovan military contingent in Kosovo's KFOR peacekeeping operation.
