Nearly one hundred orphans are adopted annually in Moldova. According to experts, most Moldovans want to adopt infants and rarely accept to take care their siblings. Besides, the adoption procedure is difficult, the specialists explain.
"There are children without special needs, without diseases. Anyway, we give priority to national adoptions", said the head of the Directorate for the Protection of Family and Children’s Rights Policies, Anastasia Gruzin.
Currently, 600 children are on the waiting list for adoption, and up to 400 people want to adopt a child. The adoption procedure can take from a few months to a year.
While Moldovans want to adopt children up to three years old, foreigners apply for the adoption of older children, at school age, siblings or children with special needs.
