New electoral system, supported by MEPs. REACTIONS after project approval
(UPDATE 17:23) Romanian MEP Norica Nicolai told PUBLIKA TV that the EPP's initiative to stop European funding for Moldova and the reassessment of the Association Agreement is a political pressure on the EU.
"It is an irrelevant proposal and a political pressure on the European Union," the Romanian MEP said.
EPP President Joseph Daul urged the European Commission to stop any funding for Moldova and reassess the Association Agreement with the EU after the Chisinau authorities had voted for the electoral system modification- a will initiated by majority of Moldovan citizens.
(14:29) The new electoral system, adopted today in the Legislature, is also supported by MEPs. Norica Nicolai believes the mixed voting only brings benefits to Moldovan citizens.
"The electoral system is the sovereign attribute of a country. I ensure this system to be necessarily implemented at the next elections, Norica Nicolai, MEP, said.
PUBLIKA.MD recalls that the 2018 parliamentary elections will be organized on the basis of a new electoral system. 50 MPs will be elected on party lists and 51 - directly by citizens, in uninominal constituencies. MEPs voted today in final reading the bill that provides for a shift to the mixed voting system.
