Number of children born out of marriage, on rise in Moldova
The number of babies born to unwed parents is growing in Moldova. 20% of the newborns had no married parents last year, reaching 8,500, or 3% year on year.
At the same time, psychologists notice society’s perception of family has been changing lately.
The women who give birth to such babies are either very young, from poor families, or above 30, financially independent as a rule.
Sociologists also point out there is a category of families who do not register their marriage in order to receive indemnities from the state.
"The relationships become shorter, as women are not inclined to make major compromises. There are many mothers rearing their children alone nowadays. But certainly the children must interact with a masculine model too," says the psychologist Irina Novac.
