Optimistic forecast shows Moldovan farmers to reap bumper crop this wheat harvest
Moldova's farmers will harvest increased wheat crop this year due to more favorable weather conditions.
Representatives of Agriculture Ministry estimated that if the weather remains this ideal, an increase of average 300 kg per acre compared with 2018 will be recorded.
Nicanor Buzovoi from Pârliţa village, Ungheni district cultivated around 800 acres. He believes to harvest a bumper crop in this weather conditions.
"We had better conditions for sowing. Without agricultural technique and you miss the favorable period for seeding, you will not receive such abundant crop", said Buzovoi.
Buzovoi, who is also the President of Moldovan Cereal Producer Association, expects all farmers to gain an excellent autumn wheat crop.
According to specialists of Agriculture Minister, Moldovan farmers will gather a heavy crop this year, around 3.5 tonnes per acre.
Approximately 370,000 acres of wheat were recorded last autumn. The new harvest will start at the middle of June.
Moldova reaped the most abundant wheat crop in 2017 with the average of 3.7 tonnes per acre. While last year data were fewer than 3 tonnes per acre.
