Unprecedented method of fighting against smoking and alcohol consuming in Orhei. The local taxes of the economic agents who sell cigarettes will raise four times and the ones for alcohol will be double. The decision was taken by Orhei Municipal Council.

Ilan Shor, the mayor of Orhei, says the majority of taxes take part of a program that targets to fight against smokers and alcohol consumers.

”The number of cigarettes merchants will decrease. The City Hall wants to control all the points of cigarettes selling. Now, the taxes vary between 3 000 and 8 000 lei, depending on the surface of the market, after the modifications, the taxes will vary between 12 000 and 24 000 lei yearly”, said Ilan Shor, the Orhai mayor.

The economic agents from Orhei refused to comment on this situation.

At the same time, some of the residents of the city appreciate the initiative, while others think this will not change anything.

This is the second time, the taxes for cigarettes and alcohol in Orhei are increased.
