Parliament approved import of red mud and furnace salg

The Parliament examined at the meeting on November 22, the amendment of some legislative acts regarding the allowed import of red mud and furnace slag to the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
The amending decision was passed in first and second reading.
The President of the Environment and Regional Development Committee, Radu Mudreac mentioned in the presentation of the project that the initiative belonged to a group of deputies and proposes to allow the import of red mud (bauxite residue) and slag slag (slag sand) waste for use as a secondary raw material in the cement industry.
According to him, the current legislation prohibits the introduction into the country of waste, residues of any kind in the raw or processed state. These types of waste are not included in the list of residues exempted from the general rule.
Thus, the modifications will allow to legalize the import activities of the red sludge and the blast-furnace slag used as additions to the production of the finished material by the cement-producing enterprises.
The deputy noted that the new regulations were demanded by cement producers in the country. The initiative was supported in final reading by 78 deputies present at the meeting.
