Pavel Filip: Army reform is an inevitable one for us. We are ready to implement it
The country is ready to fund the National Army. The declaration was made by Pavel Filip, the prime minister of Moldova who mentioned that a well-prepared army requires to be funded. A declaration in this context was made after yesterday the PDM decided to launch the National Army reform that resides in making the army service not longer compulsory.
"We requested the Defense ministry to present an action plan regarding the National Army. The initiative was discussed with the colleagues within the Cabinet of Ministers. The initiative was analyzed and it comes to make the National Army more professional. Taking into consideration all the problems of this sphere, we concluded that we must develop our army. It will be a long process. We think it will take more than two years. We will require additional funds, but this is a normal thing", said Pavel Filip.
At the same time, the prime-minister mentioned that the National Army is funded by the state budget:
"The money from the state budget come from the taxes we collect. We will have taxes if we will implement the reform agenda, inclusively the Justice reform. The formula is a simple one: rule of law, less bureaucracy, investment attractiveness, leading to job creation in budget payments of taxes and the state's ability to make public and social investments.
PUBLIKA.MD reminds that yesterday, PDM decided that the military service will no longer be compulsory for young people. In around two years, all the recruits in the army will be replaced by soldiers, who are employed on a contract. They will also be equipped by international standards. At the moment, compulsory military service has a term of one year.
