Pavel Filip assures state support and promote to women with disabilities
"We Have Abilities - We Want Possibilities!" The message was inspired by 40 women with special needs who fight against prejudice and stereotypes in society. At a national forum, they talked about the obstacles they face when trying to get involved actively in social and political life.
Olga Afanas, who suffers from cerebral palsy, has been running a translation office for five years. 34-year-old entrepreneurs say she has to face discrimination every day.
"Being a woman with disabilities has to face more difficulties," said Olga Afanas.
Premier Pavel Filip, who participated in the forum, assures that women with special needs will be supported and promoted by the state.
"We are also concerned about these problems and we want to find the barriers together with you so that you can have your place and equal chance in Moldova," Pavel Filip said.
The first National Network of Women with Disabilities, which has more than 100 members, was launched at the event.
"We thought it would be good if we were to start a dialogue today, the event is a first step of dialogue with the central and local authorities, the government, the parliament to help these state institutions, to help us to actively contribute to the society development, "said Irina Levin, president of the Disabled Entrepreneur Association.
According to official statistics, there are 184 thousand persons with disabilities in Moldova, of which 48 percent are women.
