People will have to perform unpaid community services to receive social assistance
Unemployed persons will have to perform unpaid community services. The new law, voted in the second reading, will affect all families receiving social assistance of over 288 lei, who have of the guaranteed minimum monthly income of 961 lei.
This initiative was forwarded after multiple mayors complained that some beneficiaries are registering in the labor office, solely to receive those money.
According to the document, the list of those who will perform unpaid community services will be made by social assistants and presented to the mayors.
The work program must not exceed 40 hours per month and will be calculated based on the amount of money they receive.
Those who will refuse to work will be left without social assistance.
This law does not foresees mothers taking care of children, people with disabilities, elders and people with ill health.
